Music Production & Recording

Sugarloaf is a place where you can just be you, and everyone loves you no matter what.

Adrienne, Camper

The Music Production and Recording (formerly “Digital Audio Recording”) major is offered Session 1 only.
  • Music Production and Recording students will learn to create music by using computers as songwriting and sound design tools.
  • They will learn to use the software to record audio, sequence digital instruments, edit, and mix a track from start to finish.
  • Students will need to have an enthusiasm for sound (music or otherwise) and computers.
Campers enrolled in the Music Production and Recording major should also select an elective.
Throughout the week, you will be working on recording/production projects on your own and in groups. Guided exploration in various areas of production is available to you based on personal preference and interest.

As such, you are encouraged to bring whatever instruments and microphones you have, as well as any sound effects/hardware/midi controllers you would like to explore to the major.

We will have microphones & stands, computers, audio interfaces, basic midi keyboards, and headphones available. (Feel free to bring your own headphones if you have a pair you like.)

Please clearly label anything that you bring to camp with your name and number BEFORE you arrive at Sugarloaf. If you don’t, you run the risk of it being packed away with Sugarloaf’s equipment.

If you have any questions about material/equipment you would like to use in class, or if you are not sure how it would integrate into the workstations, do not hesitate to contact the MPR PRogram Director Max Hayes: maxhayespersonal@gmail.com

  • All applicants must have attended at least one prior year of Sugarloaf Camp in any major (or be approval by instructor).
  • No previous recording or musical experience is required but students should be capable with computers and mature enough to handle working alone and in a group.
  • Students will be working with expensive equipment including microphones, laptop computers and monitors. Care and consideration of the equipment is expected.
