Electives

Elective classes for 2026

To ensure a diverse arts experience and allow campers the opportunity to explore other creative abilities, campers also participate in an “Elective” class each day.

Please Note: Campers enrolled in Black & White Photography, Digital Slideshow, Digital Audio Recording and Video Production do not select an elective as their major classes will continue instruction and projects during the elective time period.

Elective classes are offered in both of our sessions. Some electives are offered in just one session, so please check the elective table below to see when each class is available.

Session 1

Students in the Art Elective will choose from several fun projects that are designed to give beginning and advanced students experience in their chosen media. Art majors may participate in elective projects or choose to concentrate on their major area of interest. Preference is given to currently enrolled art students.

The Acting elective will workshop with a small, advanced group of students to fine-tune the principles of theater and hone individual skills. The class is designed for those with prior theater experience (2 years+) but is NOT limited to Theater majors. No age requirement.

No previous experience necessary (instrument provided by the student). Limited enrollment.

Students who already have basic guitar skills looking to add to their skills with more advanced techniques and songs.

Open to all brass musicians on their major instrument. This class will allow the student to experience performance in a small ensemble situation, including duets, trios, quartets, and quintets. etc. Campers will explore classical to modern music and will give an informal performance toward the end of the week.

Learn a variety of techniques for creating decorative and/or useful items and art projects. Beginners and experienced crafters are welcome.

Love to sing? In this class we’ll learn fun, upbeat songs in a variety of styles, emphasizing catchy harmonies and the joy of group singing.

Open to musicians who play a jazz appropriate instrument, or one that can be integrated (examples: alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, trumpet, trombone, drumset, bass guitar, guitar, keyboard – also possible: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone bass clef, tuba).

Musicians will play a variety of jazz charts and learn about improvisation for solos on their instruments. Campers will give an informal performance toward the end of the week.

Camper must list the instrument they wish to learn on the application.  Campers will receive individualized and small group instruction on the handling and playing of the instrument they wish to learn. If a different clef for music reading is required, that will also be taught. Campers have the option of giving an informal performance toward the end of the week.
