Dance

You make lifelong friends, and you will never, ever forget the time you had with them here at Sugarloaf.

Jessica, Camper

The Dance major is offered Session 2 only.

In the Dance major class, students will:
  • Learn appropriate dance warm-up, strength, and flexibility techniques.
  • Practice proper technique through a variety of combinations (including turns and jumps).
  • Learn an expressive dance routine.
  • Explore personal style and performance quality.
  • Perform a show-stopping number at the end of the week!
Campers enrolled in the Dance major should also select an elective. Because of the major’s physical intensity, we recommend choosing a non-dance elective unless you are already used to dancing that many hours each week.
  • Comfortable, form-fitting dancewear: jazz pants, leggings or shorts with a t-shirt or leotard. (No short-shorts or jeans.)
  • Jazz or ballet shoes.
  • A small notebook and a pen/pencil for choreography notes.
  • For the performance: black dance shorts, black jazz pants, and a plain black tank top.

All applicants must have had at least 2 years of recent dance experience that includes either ballet or jazz.

Be ready to AUDITION with a dance routine that is 1-2 minutes longthat shows your dance technique (pointed toes, proper turn-out, clean lines, etc.). Personality & character are encouraged!

Recommended elements for your routine to include:

  • grand jetés
  • chaîné turns
  • piqué turns
  • pirouettes
All registered Dance majors are accepted; the audition is used only for level placement.
